If you asked Santa for the chance to get favorite Jailbreak features back on your iDevice this year, your Christmas miracle has arrived. The Evasion team has released a jailbreak tool for devices running iOS 7
. The tool runs on Windows, OS X, and Linux. It took developers quite a while to works things out and now the first ever IOS 7 untethered jailbreak has been released for all supported devices.
There was no tethered jailbreak available for IOS 7, this is the first jailbreak solution released from Apple's latest OS update and it supports all incremental updates through iOS 7.0.4. All new devices are covered as well, which means that jailbreak hopefuls can now have their way with the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPad Air and the iPad mini with retina display too.
The jailbreak takes 5 minutes to install and works on both OS X and Windows-based machines, according to Evasion, which included step-by-step installation instructions. The bypass allows devices to be rebooted without connection to an external device.
Apple is, of course, expected to eventually fix the exploits Evasion is using to jailbreak the company's devices. The company has long recommended that users not jailbreak their device at the risk of security vulnerabilities, shortened battery life, unreliable voice and data, disruption of services, and the inability to apply future software updates. Cydia hasn’t been updated yet to support the latest jailbreak. The evad3rs team warns, “Many Cydia tweaks are not yet compatible with iOS 7. Please always backup your phone before installing new tweaks from Cydia as your iPhone could be stuck in the boot process. The situation will improve as developers will update their software."
So just like with any other jailbreak in the past, proceed with caution and remember that there's always a risk of bricking your phone if something goes wrong. But if you've been waiting three months for this moment, go forth and tweak to your heart's content.
